CONNECTICUT STATE FIRE SAFETY CODE

Sec. 17: Section 29-292-9d of the Regulations of Connecticut State Agencies is amended as follows:

(NEW) Chapter Twenty-seven of the Connecticut State Fire Safety Code is amended by adding the following:

(Amd) 27-1.2.2 Combined Business and Residential Occupancies.

(Add) 27-1.2.2.1 No dwelling unit shall have its sole means of egress through any business occupancy in the same building.

(Add) 27-1.2.2.2 No multiple dwelling occupancy shall be located above a business occupancy.

Exception No. 1: Where the dwelling occupancy and exits therefrom are separated from the business occupancy by construction having a fire resistance rating of at least 1 hr.

Exception No. 2: Where the business occupancy is protected throughout by an approved, automatic sprinkler system installed in accordance with Section 7-7.

Exception No. 3: A building with multiple dwelling units above a business occupancy shall be permitted, provided that the business occupancy is protected by an automatic fire detection system in accordance with Section 7-6 that provides for occupant notification throughout the dwelling units in accordance with Section 7-6.3 and that the egress from the dwelling units is protected in accordance with the requirements of the appropriate occupancy chapter.
